A few klics short of 1400 kilometres south of DC to……..
Cape Canaveral, Fla.
Saturn 1 older brother of Saturn 5
Saturn 1’s first stage gathering of 8 H-1 old engines or “Cluster’s Last Stand”. . This is the forerunner to the Saturn 5. 10 launches. 10 successes. 1961-1965
Here’s 10 we made earlier.
Now that’s Heavy Metal!
This is as close as I ever wish to get to Disney 50 miles west of here. This capsule is the only facsimile in a garden of real rockets within this 200 square mile estate at KSC. A short hop away around Cape Canaveral is the coast of rocket launch sites with a history from 1958 to present.
More real ‘stuff’ I photographed at the Smithsonian on the Mall in DC; and at Udvar -Hazy in Chantilly, Virginia.
Back to more real, old and in some parts rusty business
Some miles west but still in serious rocket town……
Time for a stogie. Can’t get Cuban in these parts! I did look! Now….. if….
I could find a cruiser somewhere around here, Havana is quite close. What?
Forget the US Coastguard!
There was of course another bird waiting for me when I got back!
“Nice view of the launch pad” she said. “Come here often”?
“You don’t have to say anything, and you don’t have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don’t you”
